The Phoenix Park District was the proud recipient of the Illinois Youth Recreation Corps 2011 grant. The Illinois Youth Recreation Corps was established for making grants to local sponsors to provide wages to youth operating and instructing in recreational and conservation programs for the benefit of other youth. Under the direction of
Ms. Debbie Bartholomew and Mr. Roosevelt Thomas, the Park District was able to employ 20 youth who worked as supervisors, instructors and instructional aides in the soccer, dance and arts & crafts programs.
The Park District received a letter of congratulations from the Illinois Dept. of Natural Resources, on their successful completion of the 2011 IYRC grant project.
